Omid 16B – Alola // Sexonwax // Bedrock @ Kingdom

Omid 16B – Alola // Sexonwax // Bedrock

“Some DJs and producers have their finger on the pulse Omid 16B is the pulse. Music runs through his veins.” – DJ Mag.

https://soundcloud.com/sexonwax

Growing up in London, with Persian roots, Omid was influenced by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Depeche Mode, RIDE and The Mission. In the Early nineties the ‘Acid House Movement’ was turning heads, and Omid’s tastes became increasingly more electronic based rather than indie rock.

In 1993, he made the pivotal step of setting up his deep-house label Alola Records, followed by his tech-house driven Disclosure imprint in 1995 and later down the road, SexOnWax Recordings in 2002.

Definitely from the old school, but with roots firmly in ‘the next level’, his productions continue to inspire thousands. His game changing remix of ‘Gus Gus – Believe’ featured as the opening track on the iconic ‘Northern Exposure 2’ release by Sasha & Digweed, a remix so mesmerizing that it was Omid’s version used in the music video by Gus Gus themselves. Then there is the timeless sounds of ‘In between your Choice’ as well as the commercial success that came his way when he collaborated with Richard Morel on the hit single ‘Escape (Driving To Heaven)’.

As an industry leader, Omid has always been at the forefront of experimental release strategies for his material. In collaboration with DJ Magazine, he was instrumental in launching ‘Face Off’ in 2006, one of the first and most successful cover mount CD Series.

In between solo projects, he continues to evolve the SOS project with his partner Demi, a project with a milestone achievement of a Radio One Essential Mix and two critically acclaimed SOS compilations – ‘Balance 013’ and ‘Ministry of Sound presents SOS’.

Finally, the past few months have seen Omid very busy promoting 20 years of Alola with a series of events worldwide accompanied by releases from distinguished Alola label members, and also putting the finishing touches to ‘Sounds Like Alola’ Volume 4 and a new 16B artist album.

As a DJ, Omid maintains an international schedule and tours extensively throughout Europe, the U.S. and Asia. He lays down intelligent and enchanting sets that blend together everything from sublime deep house through to dark, yet soulful, emotive techno.

We’ve welcomed Omid to Austin a few times over the past couple of years and his sets have always been ear catching. This time we’re pleased to have him in Kingdom so he can let rip on their sound system.

Witty Tunes / Kling Klong

With RESURGENCE we are all about booking fresh acts for Austin that feature rising artists who deserve attention, and for this special edition we’ve cooked up something nice. We will be featuring SIDEBURN’s Mike Haddad.

SIDEBURN is a project by Mike Haddad & Royce Haven out of Washington DC. The tunes made under Sideburn are designed to strictly burn the dance floors whilst giving the sound system a proper workout.
http://www.beatport.com/artist/sideburn/160970

In this Q & A with Beatport, SIDEBURN describes their music as “House with a dash of Deep, hint of Tech, and a sprinkle of Soul.” It takes a little piece of these sub-genres of House to create something great for the floors. That’s why we decided to bring Mike along to showcase their vibes in ATX for you.
http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item/q-a-with-sideburn/

This is one not to miss if you are looking for something refreshing. With tracks already seeing releases on labels such as: Sander Kleinenberg’s LITTLE MOUNTAIN & THIS IS, Saeed Younan’s YOUNAN MUSIC, 303Lovers, KLING KLONG, and GREAT STUFF, you can expect something nice 😀

Their remix alongside production/label partners REDONDO on 303Lovers held #1 for 2 weeks straight recently in February for Beatport’s Top10 Deep House chart..

On top of being world class Producers, and DJs.. Mike and Royce, along with partners REDONDO of the Netherlands, have been busy with their own record label WITTY TUNES with tracks consistently hitting charts. Be sure to check them out..

Omid 16B is a true artist but also a DJ/ producer of the highest caliber and owner/ founder of Sexonwax Recordings and the recently resurrected Alola Records. His artistic approach to everything he’s touched has so far seen a prolific 15 years and is getting from strength to strength. His artist album “Sounds From Another Room” on “Eye Q Recordings”, through to his mix compilations like “Balance 13” on Stomp Australia or “In House We Trust” on Yoshitoshi have lead to critical acclaim as his singles which have been signed on to major labels like BMG/ Deconstruction just to name a few. Sponsored by industry giants such as Pioneer, Ableton, Roland and Native Instruments Omid has been hailed as one of the most cutting edge artists coming out of the UK in the past decade. His remixes have ranged from artists such as The Cure to Gus Gus, to François Kevorkian to Deep Dish and Depeche Mode amongst many others.

An artist truly in ascendance, Omid 16B had a crazy 2011. Following the release of the double-A-side ‘Rain/ Passion of Zorro’ on John Digweed’s Bedrock stable, Omid has been touring furiously. From Carl Craig’s Planet E stage at Snowbombing, through to DJmag’s 20th anniversary show at Space Ibiza to the MTV festival in Croatia, a plauded London SW4 main stage, Bestival and the Space closing parties in Ibiza, Omid has not let up.

Currently Omid is finishing the last stages of his new artist album to be released in 2012. This will be documented by the BBC who are currently making a film about DJ’s with a different background based in London and Omid 16B will play a major part in allowing the world to get an insight to his everyday life as a DJ.

Omid is not a new face to Austin – he came here 16 months ago and completely rocked the pants off Halloween. We’re extremely lucky to have him back for a truly underground party on the fringe of SXSW 2012. Invite your friends and start spreading the word.

Cromarti Records Label Showcase 004 feat. JESUS PABLO

276600_177465128986335_4176832_n

Venue:
LANAI Rooftop Lounge
422 Congress Avenue, Suite C
Austin, TX

Well Austin… We at Cromarti Records are trying to bring you all some of the best, up and coming, underground, talented artists on the market to check out. For our August showcase we’d like to introduce you to a very talented producer who will be featured on Cromarti Records with some great digs!

He’s a UK-based DJ/Producer/Remixer/Fashion Designer, but the born and bred scouser from Liverpool has a very spainish alias, Jesus Pablo.

A collaboration of mind, body and soul infuses his thoughts as he hopes to create imaginative sets and music, and for anyone that will care to listen.

“Music should make you dance, smile and think all at the same time, so that’s what I intend to do. Appreciate the DJ and the music and the rest will follow, you will begin to see how they worked together.”

Forging a base on everything from house to techno, he plans to be known as the man who takes you on a journey and move your feet. Jesus has started to bring his own sound to the masses with a truck load of originals, remixes and collabs due out before this summer on labels such as 26 Tea Drops International, What Happens, Cubsim, Deep Edition Recordings, Deso Records, EleFlight Records, Kitschy Records, Headtunes Recordings, Cromarti Records, and many more. His contribution to the scene cannot be underestimated – even thought its only just beginning.

Adding to all his releases, he’s also now signed to Headtunes Recordings, as an in-house artist and remixer for the label, plus they have personally asked him to do some exclusive remixes / edits and also mix their forthcoming ‘5 Year Compilation Album’ – which is due out in July. He’s picked an album full of distinctive cuts from the past five years that will take you on a soulfully deep and techy house journey. Jesus is planning to remix 4 of the album tracks and with the addition of an exclusive track from himself, he’s making an EP for the label to really stamp his mark.

The future is looking very bright indeed; steadily settling into production and a DJ career that is soon to explode; already played at Birmingham’s number one underground venue ‘Cellar Door’ for FUSS Club aswell as attracting attention from all over Europe, including gigs at Culture Box, Copenhagen for Tim Andresen’s ‘What Happens’, plus a tour of USA and Mexico booked in for August and South America in Novemeber, the future looks very promising.

And his new productions… just wait!

Back once again at Lanai for a night of groovin deep tunage! This time with extra special guest Andre Guarda from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
We hope you will join us on a Sunday evening, before the hectic work week, to sample the music we wish to keep providing for electronic music fans in Austin and around the globe.

CROMARTI FEATURED ARTIST: ANDRE GUARDA / Sao Paulo – BR

This July we will be showcasing a brand new artist to Cromarti Records. His name is ANDRE GUARDA from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Andre gained interest in music when he was very young. He began learning the Keyboard, and practiced with determination. Within 5 years or so he became interested in the Electric Guitar as well, and developed his knowledge of music even further. At 18 years old the world of Electronic music caught his attention, and fully became a part of his life. It wasn’t long before Andre was getting behind the decks and learning the art of mixing.
Andre began his productions recently and has already been releasing tracks on several labels such as: Kitschy Records (UK), Cromarti Records (US), and the Brazilian labels iNminimax and Lo Kik Records. His tunes have been receiving heavy support by well known DJ’s in some of the most respected clubs and biggest festivals in Brazil such as: D.edge, and Hot Hot.
The mixtures of Deep and Tech House with the grooves of Jazz and Soul are typical in his production style, and it results in a very shaking dancefloor.

07.08.11 :: JIM RIVERS (Intec) – Free Party @ Lanai Rooftop Lounge

Print

Often after the July 4th weekend you feel all partied out, tired, hung over, deflated even, and the prospect of heading out the following weekend doesn’t have quite the same appeal. Well boy do we have something to change all that!

Globetrotting DJ extraordinaire, Jim Rivers, is coming to town. It’s been nearly two years since Jim last graced the decks in Austin, but this July 8th, he’s back with a FREE show at Lanai rooftop lounge.

————————————————————
JIM RIVERS
Intec // Four:Twenty // Global Underground
http://www.facebook.com/jimriversofficial

Since his debut release on SAW Recordings in 2006, Jim Rivers has become a much sought after DJ/Producer worldwide. Described as “a future classic in the making” by Paolo Mojo, his relaunch of the Nubreed series on Global Underground took the electronic music world by storm in 2009. Crossing the many bridges between house and techno with relaxed dignity, Jim’s DJing, original productions, and remixing make him stand head and shoulders above the current crop of DJs.

We’re lucky to have bagged Jim in Austin for one night with an exclusive two hour set as part of his Texas tour. In an age where most headliners coming through Texas are doing 1 – 1.5 hour sets, two hours will give you an opportunity to really get into the groove. So, put your dancing shoes on, grab a cocktail or two, and come out and hear what all the fuss is about.
